Carl Connection: Music Community + Editorial Intern

Grey Matter is a community for sharing and discovering music, together.

We’re seeking a music community + editorial intern who can provide creative communications support across social media, email marketing, editorial, and discord.

Our ideal candidate is a curious, reliable creative who likes to write, cares about music, and is interested in engaging with artists and music communities while promoting a project that supports both. If all goes well, we'd be excited about extending our partnership beyond the scope of the internship. 

Our Music Community + Editorial intern will:

  • Write about music and its communities alongside our music journalist Co-founder / Carleton alum.
  • Support social media content creation and strategy.
  • Help manage a growing community in Discord.
  • Perform artist and influencer outreach.
  • Contribute approximately 40 hours per week in a flexible, inclusive work environment.
  • Participate in strategy meetings.
  • Have the autonomy to make suggestions, be creative, start your own projects, and engage with our high-level strategy.
  • Have access to the team's guidance and mentorship.

Our Music Community + Editorial intern has:

  • 1+ year of experience with writing and/or content creation.
  • A portfolio of work (a blog/social media examples are fine).
  • Participated in some kind of music organization/group.
  • Outstanding communication skills and a willingness to be responsive and engaged.
  • Keen understanding of relevant social media ecosystems.
  • A fierce passion for music and a strong interest in its communities.

Dates & Hours:
Approx. hours per week: 20-40 (can be flexible)

Approx. start and end dates: June 1 - August 31 (can be flexible, and If all goes well, we'd be excited about extending our partnership beyond the scope of the internship. 

Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship but Grey Matter will give all contributors equity in the project. If you will be returning to campus in the fall, you are eligible to apply for summer internship funding from Carleton.
