Geoffrey, one of the supervising attorneys in the Hennepin County Public Defenders Office is restarting an in-person investigative internship program for students who might be interested in public defense, investigation, or the criminal justice system.

Details:
The Hennepin County Public Defenders Office provides a select group of college students with a unique, educational experience working in one of Minnesota’s largest law firms. Our program is designed for students who are interested in criminal defense, want a behind the scene look at the criminal justice system, or want to help marginalized populations.

Investigative Interns support Assistant Public Defenders with a wide range of projects.
Interns work hand in hand with experienced criminal defense attorneys on misdemeanor, felony, and juvenile cases. They interview witnesses, take pictures of crime scenes, track down evidence, serve subpoenas, and testify in court. Interns may also have the opportunity to observe and participate in client interviews and case strategy meetings.

There are 3 Internship sessions. Each will typically run a minimum of 10 weeks and will take place during the fall semester, winter semester, and June-August. Internships are volunteer and may be either part-time or full-time. Interns may have to opportunity to participate in more than one session.

Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis. Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume to Geoffrey.Isaacman@hennepin.us or call (612) 348-7891.

NOTE: Unless you are graduating in June 2022, you are encouraged to apply for summer internship funding from Carleton.
