New Charter School Hiring Founding Teachers

Position Overview & Responsibilities
We are building our founding faculty team, who will be tasked with leading students through an active learning journey that meets children at their current level and then builds the foundation from which they can soar. Rather than worksheets and textbooks, our students learn from games, experiments, technology, and rigorous intellectual discussion that stimulate their enjoyment while challenging their brains. Instead of traditional grading, Surad uses an expansive mastery tracking system that includes key life skills such as executive function, strategic thinking, and community building. At Surad, the faculty inspire, emotionally develop, and bring out the type of higher-level thinking that students will need for lifetime success.

Faculty will be responsible for instructing students with a wide range of abilities, assessing student learning, collecting and analyzing student data, creating an engaging and respectful classroom environment, communicating with students, parents and multiple stakeholders, maintaining accurate records, supervising students, participating in school improvement initiatives and learning professionally. 
 
Start date: August 1, 2023
FTE: 1.0
Contract: 186 days
 
Requirements & Qualifications
All licensed/certified teaching positions require licensure by the State of Minnesota. You can apply for a teaching license through the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. An approved background check, I-9 verification and payroll paperwork must be completed prior to working as a licensed staff member at Surad Academy.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate a commitment to student success, enthusiasm for working with youth, a solid base of academic fundamentals, and a desire to continue learning and growing. 


Salary & Benefits
The compensation package was created to provide faculty with cash compensation above the starting teacher pay in Faribault, MN, and competitive with starting salaries across the state. It allows a teacher to live reasonably in Faribault, while also rewarding faculty whose students show significant improvements from where they began the year.
 
Salary: $45k. 
 
Bonus: Up to $5k end-of-year bonus based on performance at the following:  
  • Implementing Surad’s learning system, including accurately tracking student progress
  • Keeping a clean disciplinary record with strong attendance 
  • Student growth across a broad range of skills, including both academic and life skills tied to rubrics.
