Community Outreach and Canine Foster Recruitment Intern (CCCE)

**NOTE: This is a low or unfunded opportunity. You will be eligible to apply for summer internship funding from Carleton if you will be returning to campus in the fall.

About Believet
Believet Canine Service Partners is dedicated to providing service dogs to veteran clients with mobility and/or psychiatric needs, such as PTSD, and operates a foster program crucial for the dogs training and socialization. We are seeking a passionate and motivated Community Outreach and Foster Recruitment Intern to expand our canine foster network. This internship offers an opportunity to engage with the community and recruit new foster families, contributing significantly to the success of our service dog program. We are flexible on your start date so you can combine this internship with working Carleton’s Reunion weekend or Lighten Up resue sale.

Responsibilities:

  • Outreach Strategy: Develop and implement a community outreach strategy to attract potential foster families, utilizing various channels such as social media, local events, partnerships with businesses, and outreach campaigns.
  • Engagement and Presentations: Represent the organization at community events, schools, and local gatherings to educate and engage audiences about the benefits of fostering service dogs.
  • Networking and Partnerships: Learn and review Believet’s history of local partnerships. Collaborate with local organizations, shelters, and community groups to establish new partnerships and networks that support foster recruitment efforts.
  • Information Sessions: Organize and conduct information sessions or workshops to provide interested individuals with detailed information about the foster program and its requirements.
  • Follow-up and Support: Provide guidance to potential foster through the application process, connect the potential foster with the foster coordinator, and offer ongoing support and resources.

Requirements:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for animal welfare and service dog training.
  • Ability to engage with diverse audiences and present information effectively.
  • Proficiency in outreach strategies, including social media and community engagement.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work both independently and in a team.
  • Comfortable handling dogs of various sizes and strengths. Transportation needed with dog being allowed in vehicle.
  • Access to a personal computer.
