Growing Up Healthy Resource Redistribution Summer Internship (CCCE)

**NOTE: This is a low or unfunded opportunity. You will be eligible to apply for summer internship funding from Carleton if you will be returning to campus in the fall.

Position Summary:
Are you excited about providing a welcoming and supportive community for all? Are you wanting to use your skills to transform communities and build resiliency in our immigrant neighbors? Provide support for Growing Up Healthy’s involvement in Carleton’s Lighten Up thrift sale. Work directly on Lighten Up sale preparation during the month of June with a focus on local resource redistribution to low-income neighborhoods. Following Lighten Up spend July and August supporting Evenings in the Park programming.

About the Organization:
Established in 2007, Growing Up Healthy (a program of the Healthy Community Initiative) works with partner organizations and Latine immigrant families to transform communities through cultivating neighborhood leadership, fostering social connectedness, and collectively advocating for change within neighborhoods and systems. A team of Growing Up Healthy Coordinators guides this work. 

Internship details: Growing Up Healthy is seeking bilingual individuals who will support summertime neighborhood outreach and community organizing efforts in low-income neighborhoods in Northfield and Faribault. Up to 20-40 hours per week, working in the Northfield and Faribault communities with Latine residents and families. Visit Growing Up Healthy's website: www.growinguphealthy.org

Tasks: 

• Participate in the collection, sorting, and distribution of Lighten Up materials donated by Carleton students with a focus on the local community (June)
• Identify resources that would benefit the community to redistribute at Growing Up Healthy's Evenings in the Park program - our signature neighborhood outreach program to engage families when school is not in session. 
• Document popular and unpopular resources for future reference, document requested resources with a focus on matching existing resources to requests
• Support Evenings in the Park programming
• Listen for, identify, and document barriers and challenges families face; work with the Growing Up Healthy team to regularly share this feedback with systems-level decision-makers.
• Engage families as much as possible in the process of identifying collaborative solutions.
• Connect families with community resources and social services, including assisting with required paperwork (as needed).
• Build strong working relationships with partners and ensure effective communication with individuals and organizations central to the work of Growing Up Healthy.
• Evaluate and track data on the effectiveness of Growing Up Healthy’s outreach efforts.
• Support Xcel Energy’s Home Energy Squad visits and related services to Latine residents and those living in Faribault’s and Northfield’s mobile home parks.
• Support heat tape outreach in mobile home parks in Northfield and Faribault

Qualifications

• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Highly organized with superior attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) and Google Suite
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent ability to multi-task and troubleshoot issues
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
• Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
• Ability to work evening hours
• Passion for equity and social justice
• Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of the Healthy Community Initiative

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
