Summer STEAM Program Facilitator Grades 1 to 8 (CCCE)

**NOTE: This is a low or unfunded opportunity. You will be eligible to apply for summer internship funding from Carleton if you will be returning to campus in the fall.

Position Description:

This position will lead activities and lessons for a section of students going into grades 1-8 for Summer STEAM “Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math”. Responsibilities include leading, assisting in, and working with a team to provide instruction and activities, leading camp sessions, and transportation supervision of students before and after program hours. Other duties as assigned. We are looking to hire six Carleton students for this position.

Position details: Summer STEAM will run from June 17 through August 1, 2024, Monday - Thursday. On June 19th and July 4th, there will be no Summer STEAM. There will be some required training dates for staff during the week of June 10th that will be communicated to all hired staff once details are finalized. This position will report from approximately 7 am - 4 pm (depending on the bus supervision schedule) with a 30-minute lunch break. Staff will be placed at either Jefferson Elementary (grades 1-4) or Faribault High School (grades 5-8). Applicants who are available for the entirety of the program will be considered first. 

About the Organization: Faribault Community Education’s Summer STEAM program camps are based on the major areas of science, technology, engineering, art, and math! Students are encouraged to learn in a more hands-on and creative way at STEAM while maintaining skills that they learned in school. STEAM also encourages students to connect with each other while exploring new areas of interest.

Qualifications (From Growing Up Healthy)

  • Experience with working in a summer camp setting and leading activities with youth.  
  • Enrolled in, graduated from, or on track for a Bachelor’s degree program
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) and Google Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to multi-task and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
  • Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Passion for equity and social justice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Somali and English
