Thrifting Coordinator (CCCE)

**NOTE: This is a low or unfunded opportunity. You will be eligible to apply for summer internship funding from Carleton if you will be returning to campus in the fall.

Position Summary
Provide support for the Northfield Union of Youth’s (Key) involvement in Carleton’s Lighten Up thrift sale. Work directly on Lighten Up sale preparation throughout the month of June. Work alongside the Key youth volunteers at Lighten Up, including supervising the youth, tracking attendance, tracking tasks, and other duties as they arise. Explore outlets for Lighten Up resources that would benefit youth. Assist with food resource distribution to youth. The opportunity to create and foster developmental relationships with youth, empowering and supporting youth leadership. 

Our Organization
Northfield Union of Youth (NUY) is a youth services 501 (c) (3) non-profit with a mission to give power and voice to area youth and to create a caring and enriching community. Youth, employees, volunteers, board members, and adults work creatively and collaboratively together to meet this mission. Employment with NUY is viewed through the lens of NUY’s mission and can present continuous and evolving duties and tasks. However, the mission and the work to build developmental relationships and opportunities with youth have not changed. NUY’s work is based on the following models; trauma-informed and responsive, harm reduction, and positive youth development. Uniquely, NUY is run by a youth board and an adult board. Youth select and appoint both youth and adults to their respective boards. Day-to-day programming is created, led, and implemented entirely by youth. Organizational policies and procedures are agreed on jointly by both the youth and adult boards. NUY removes all barriers for youth to participate.  Be present and have your voice heard.  There are no qualifications, assessments, registrations, or fees.  The Key is open to all youth ages 12-20 and other programs outside of the Key are available for youth up to age 24.

NUY prioritizes the need to amplify youth voices, opinions, and perspectives. NUY works collaboratively with Northfield Schools, Health Care Providers, County Services, Law Enforcement, and a host of other organizations and institutions to meet the needs of Northfield’s youth. 

NUY combines supportive services with enrichment activities to make a meaningful impact. This includes support around mental health, housing, academics, employment, art, music, recreation, social justice and so much more. The mission of the Northfield Union of Youth is to provide power and voice to area youth and to create a caring and enriching community.

Being a staff member at the Key includes the following responsibilities: 

Organizational Development:

  • Communicate and strategically plan with the youth board members and youth participants regularly.
  • Communicate and strategically plan with the Executive Director regularly.
  • Other responsibilities and tasks as they develop. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience doing Outreach and relationship-building with youth of various demographics. 
  •  Ability To work under stress and respond to emergencies and crisis situations.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  •  Flexibility and work hours to meet the needs of the organization and the youth. Ability to pass all required background checks.
  • Naloxone (NARCAN) Training (provided onsite)
